Over the next semester, USI Equality will be rolling out the "What's Your Attitude?" campaign on third level campuses around the country.
The aim of the campaign is to provoke students into thinking about their attitudes to issues such as racism, disability, sexism, ageism and homophobia.
Discrimination against students by their peers is still prevalent across college campuses and more worryingly, on the increase over the past number of months.
USI Equality wants to raise awareness of this issue among the student population and encourage students to stand up and speak out against this type of behaviour.
The campaign will also ask students to question the language which they use to describe their friends and colleagues. Language is a powerful tool which we use to formulate our thoughts and opinions and the words we use influence our belief system. Terms which are insulting and derogatory have no place in the college environment.
The campaign uses print media to communicate with students as well as social media tools, such as Facebook, Twitter and blogging. Local unions are also encouraged to run events on campus to highlight the campaign.
