Hi all!

I am Breffni Gorman and I am the Western Area Officer of the Union of Students in Ireland this year.

I am originally from Sligo and for the last three years I have been working at IT Sligo Students’ Union. The first year there was spent as Press and Communications officer, while for the last two years I was Education Officer and President. I believe that the knowledge I gained during this time will give me the experience needed to carry out the role of USI Western Area Officer effectively. I am really looking forward to getting to know the campuses in the West and interacting with students and Students’ Union and integrating them even further with USI.

My role this year is to help all the colleges in the West in any way I can and you will see me throughout the year at class rep councils and training. You are all too aware of the threats to the student welfare and as a member of USI officer board I am going to work my hardest to prevent further cuts to our education system. USI has achieved a lot in the past and has been hot on the trail of the local politicians. I aim to continue lobbying local politicians and keep the pressure up on them so student issues are never left on the back burner.
