LGBTR Officer 2011

Siobhan

Hey!

My name is Siobhán McGuire and I’m the USI LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) Rights Officer for 2011/12. This is my second year running in this role.

I’m 22 and from Dublin. I’ve been involved with LGBT from the age of 14 when I joined BeLonG To Youth group. Since then I have been involved with various campaigns with BeLonG To, Marriage Equality, LGBT Noise and UCD LGBT Society. In April 2010 I appeared in ‘Growing Up Gay’, a documentary on RTÉ and The Late Late Show to speak about my experience of growing up gay.

My job as USI LGBT R.O is to help improve the lives of LGBT students across Ireland through working with the individual student unions and societies, as well as LGBT organisations across the country such as GLEN (Gay and Lesbian Equality Network), TENI (Transgender Equality Network Ireland) BeLonG To Youth Services, Marriage Equality and many more to ensure that the needs of LGBT students are being met on their campuses.

Every year in November, the USI LGBT Rights Officer hosts a weekend called Pink Training. It’s a fun, informative weekend which brings students from colleges all across Ireland together to learn about LGBT issues through workshops and talks on such things as coming-out, sexual health, queer theory, LGBT activism etc. It is a fun, relaxed weekend with a great way to make new friends from all over the country.

If you, your student union or society would like any further information on the USI LGBT campaign or help at any point during the year please don’t hesitate to contact me at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or by mobile on 086 781 6393.
