The President
The USI President has overall responsibility to lead the work of the USI. It is his/her responsibility to allocate the work among the rest of the officers. He/She is the chief spokesperson and representative of the organisation and is the Chief Executive Officer of the Union.
The Deputy President / Campaigns Officer
The Deputy President officer shall assume the duties of the President, when he/she is absent. It is also the responsibility of the Deputy President to oversee the work of the Area Campaigns Officers subject to direction by the President. This officer also has the responsibility to organise and prepare campaign strategies and plans of action as required in pursuit of Union policy in liaison with the President. He/She will also assist other officers in their campaigning work.
The Education Officer
The Education Officer has special responsibility of working on the USI's academic affairs and oversees the development, implementation and planning of the USI's education policy. This includes policy concerning postgraduate students and their studies, who he/she works on in conjunction with the Postgraduate Officer. This officer is also responsible for running education campaigns, in conjunction with the Deputy President/Campaigns Officer. The Education Officer is the Chairperson of the Education Working Group, which is concerned with developing, implementing and planning the USI's education policy.
The Welfare Officer
The Welfare Officer has overall responsibility for initiating campaigns for the defence and promotion of student welfare rights. The Welfare Officer has responsibility for the implementation and development of the Union's welfare policy and is also responsible for the provision of welfare publications and materials.
The Equality Officer
The Equality Officer has the responsibility of initiating campaigns for the defence and promotion of student's right in the areas of equality. This includes issues of discrimination caused by age, disability, family status, gender, marital status, membership of the Traveller Community, nationality, race, religion, sexual orientation and socio economic circumstance. This officer is responsible for running Equality Training Events and is the chairperson of the Equality Working Group, which included the LGBT, Gender Equality, Mature Students and International Students Officers.
The Area Campaigns Officers
These officers, one representing the Eastern, Western, Northern and Southern regions, are responsible for the overall direction of the work of their regions. They are responsible for communicating the message of the USI to its members, Constituent Organisations, external organisations and the general public through meetings, conference events, campaigns and training events.
The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender (LGBT) Rights Officer
The LGBT Rights Officers is responsible for carrying out the USI policy on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights. S/he encourages the participation of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students in the USI and works to eliminate prejudice against the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. S/he runs LGBT training events and is part of the Equality Working Group.
